Statement on Recent DACA Decision

A Message from the Journal’s Student Staff and Executive Advisory Board

The Harvard Kennedy School Journal of Hispanic Policy’s student staff, along with its executive advisory board of Hispanic business, civic, and academic leaders, is joined in concern for the nation’s nearly one million non-citizen Dreamers, whose fates remain more uncertain than ever in the wake of President Trump’s recent decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program and urge congressional action on the issue. We ask Congress to move quickly towards a constructive resolution of this matter, which disproportionately affects Hispanic communities across the nation; and we encourage forward looking legislation that recognizes the many and important contributions the Dreamers and other immigrants have made, and continue to make, to American society. The United States is a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws. We recognize the complexity of the issues and urge all people of goodwill to work constructively towards a fair and durable balance of national and human interests in our treatment of affected DACA participants and their families.
